At Sakuma Hoyu Shoin, our English-speaking master instructor will guide you through every step, so even complete beginners can relax and enjoy a genuine calligraphy experience. ◆ Session Overview (Duration: approx. 90 minutes) STEP 1 | We'll translate your words into Japanese. Tell us what you'd like to write in your calligraphy. We'll find the perfect Japanese expression for it. If you're not sure, you're welcome to choose from the sample collection available at the studio. STEP 2 | Practice on a Tablet Use our digital tablet to practice your chosen characters as many times as you like — no pressure, no wasted paper. STEP 3 | Practice Your Brushstrokes Learn the fundamentals of brushwork on paper. Your instructor will be right beside you, so there's nothing to worry about even if it's your very first time. STEP 4 | Create Your Artwork Write your chosen characters — your name in katakana or kanji, or a phrase that speaks to your heart — on beautiful washi paper. STEP 5 | Take Your Artwork Home Your finished piece is yours to keep. "Hi, I teach calligraphy to foreign guests at Koganei City, which is 25 minutes ride on the Chuo t.rain from Shinjyuku. You can find your favorite words however you don't know Japanese. I can also teach tablet calligraphy using Zenbrush2 and 3 by Apple. I'm an English teacher and good at communicating in English. I want people of international badkground to enjoy Japanese culture, not only as a spectator, but also as an active participant. I think calligraphy can be a gateway for you to know Japanese beauty and art and further understanding of our culture in a whole new way. So why don't you give it a try? My classroom is close to Edo Tokyo Open-air architectural museum in Koganei park, so I can take you and explain after the lesson. Also if you want to go to calligraphy exhibition, I can explain.. "
